Layout
On a completely unrelated note to food: I've finalized the layout of this blog. Although, I suppose the note is related to food: the reason I chose the background was for the snapshot's resemblance to my kitchen table at home. I've always had an acute sense of a kitchen table, I remember all of the ones I've lived with to a startling degree. My dorm kitchen table has grooves that form a perfect square and are a perfect mess to clean and look at. Even when I want to leave the kitchen clean after a spate of cooking, I can't. Those grooves defeat me! Crumbs and salt and sugar and pepper and spices, they roll, they are caught in a groove and lost forever to my trusty roll of toilet paper (a permanent cleaning addendum now to the kitchen). At home, though, my kitchen table resembles the background with my family's own personal touch of a laminate we painted on ourselves. Being human and fallible with shaky hands, when I'm wiping down the table or more recently in the past month rolling and kneading dough, I feel these little imperfects, which pocket the smooth surface of the dough. Pff. Imperfections give character, I feel, to the dough, to the experience of this erstwhile student of food.
